:: INTRODUCTION

The Ninth Annual Sufism Symposium will be held on Memorial Day Weekend, May 24-27, in Bellevue, Washington. This year's theme is Sufism: Practicing Harmony. The Symposium is presented by the International Association of Sufism, headquartered in San Rafael, California, directed by Shah Nazar Seyed Ali Kianfar, Ph. D., and Seyedeh Nahid Angha, Ph.D.

More than 500 people from across the United States and around the world are expected at the Symposium which is open to people of all faiths and spiritual traditions and all Sufi orders. The Symposium will include lectures, poetry readings, musical performances, art workshops, meditation and zekr prayer services. All events are open to the public and all persons are welcome.

The conference will open with a workshop on Islamic Arts from 9 to 4 on Friday. Also on Friday, a panel discussion on “Balance and Harmony in Spiritual Psychology” will take place from 3 to 5 at the Meydenbauer Center, 11100 NE 6th St. in Bellevue, featuring several prominent psychologists. A evening highlight will be a concert entitled “Music of the Soul: An Interfaith Harmony” presented by several interfaith music groups from Washington and California at Meydenbauer Center from 8 to 10 Friday evening.

Saturday, Sunday, and Monday will consist of a series of lectures, panel discussions, round table conversations, interfaith prayer services and Sufi zekr at the Doubletree Hotel.
